Reedy STREAMBANK WORK COMPLETED
Two months ahead of schedule the City completed Reedy River stream stabilization project in five separate locations.
"We were very glad to complete these streambank stabilization projects ahead of schedule and get in front of the spring growing season," Interim City Engineer Paul Dow said. "Healthy root systems are key to stable streambanks, so we need everyone’s help in this final stage. Please stay off the matting!"
-
Streambank restoration work was completed at five sites along the Reedy River.
-
Workers added geolifts and landscaping along the river bank, and replaced 200 feet of the Swamp Rabbit Trail behind Andover Apartments.
-
Geolifts and plantings were installed in Cleveland Park.
-
At this site in Cleveland Park, workers added a bench lift, bank grading and new trees at the top of the bank.
-
Below Reedy River Falls, a bench lift with live stakes were planted, to increase the river's capacity to handle flooding.
-
Above the Reedy River Falls near Main Street, workers added 220 feet of boulders and seeding to establish a turf.
The riverbank repairs included:
- Andover area of the Swamp Rabbit Trail: grading and stabilization of approximately 150 feet of eroded streambank adjacent to the Swamp Rabbit Trail with geolifts and native plants. A small portion of the trail was replaced as part of this work.
- Upper Cleveland Park Site: grading and stabilization of approximately 150 feet of eroded streambank with a floodplain bench and native plants.
- Lower Cleveland Park Site: grading and stabilization of approximately 50 feet of eroded streambank adjacent to the Swamp Rabbit Trail with geolifts and native plants.
- Lower Falls Park Site: grading and stabilization of approximately 50 feet of eroded streambank with geolifts and native plants.
- Upper Falls Park Site: grading and stabilization of approximately 200 feet of eroded streambank downstream from the Main Street Bridge with stone boulder toe armoring.
