A 16-year-old male, wanted for two armed robberies last week, is in custody following a brief standoff with Greenville Police officers this afternoon at Stonesthrow Apartment Homes located at 65 Century Circle.
Acting on a tip, GPD officers were responding to the apartment complex to speak with family members of a possible suspect in the robberies that occurred at the Citgo Corner Mart at 433 N. Pleasantburg Drive on Thursday afternoon (August 8) and the Sonic Drive-In at 954 N. Pleasantburg Drive on Friday morning (August 9).
As officers attempted to get someone to the door of the apartment at approximately 12: 45 p.m., they heard persons inside moving about hurriedly and turning off televisions and music devices.
Eventually an individual inside the apartment addressed police from behind the locked door, but he refused to exit the residence.
A GPD Crisis Negotiation Team arrived and was able to convince the male- who officers later learned was a 16-year-old juvenile- to surrender to police at approximately 1:10 p.m.
Due to his age, the juvenile’s name is not being released.
The teenager is charged with:
• Two (2) counts of Armed Robbery
• Two (2) counts of Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under the Age of 18
• Threatening the Life of a Public Official
