2017 Historic Resources Survey
The 2017 Historic Resources Survey is in progress. Members of the consultant team from WLA Studio in Athens, GA have been actively surveying neighborhoods since the beginning of June. The surveyors have compiled information on and photographic documentation of many of the structures in the selected neighborhoods, which include West End, Village of West Greenville, Greater Sullivan, Cleveland Park, Nicholtown, North Main, Augusta Road, Sherwood Forest and Parkins Mill. They are gathering information by touring the neighborhoods on foot and interacting with residents who have questions and/or historic input. Their goal is to document architectural detailing, design features, construction, materials, and context as buildings approach 50 years of age and older.
The WLA Studio staff will compile a comprehensive historic update of the surveyed neighborhoods by creating a listing of relevant properties. Representatives from the City and the consultant team are scheduled to meet with local historians to include cultural and contextual history along with resources from Greenville historic organizations, libraries, and public records.
Suggestions for additions to the inventory are welcome and can be submitted on the Historic Resources Survey page of the City's website.
