City Council Updates - February 11, 2019
Last night, City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance authorizing the sale of five City-owned parcels totaling .8 acre along West Washington Street for redevelopment. Plans for the property include a mixed-use development with 5,000 square feet of office space, 16 affordable housing units and community green space. Proceeds from the sale will be used to improve Antley Street, complete on-site improvements and provide down payment assistance to buyers purchasing the residential and commercial units.
Pendleton Street Rezoning
City Council approved an ordinance to rezone portions of Pendleton Street, North Memminger Street, South Calhoun Street and South Academy Street. Initiated by City staff, the rezoning was the result of a request from the West End Neighborhood Association to evaluate the existing zoning and recommend changes to encourage more mixed-use and neighborhood-friendly development.
Pendleton Street (from South Main Street to Academy Street) will be rezoned to RDV (Redevelopment District), while Academy Street (from Pendleton Street to Markley Street) will include RDV, RM-2 (Single Family and Multi-Family Residential) and C-2 (Local Commercial) districts.
